Thaw Daggerslash - Tailoring

For my final year major project I chose to interpret Chris Riddell's illustration of Thaw Daggerslash from "The Edge Chronicles". This costume lead me into a research rabbit hole of all things pirates and tailoring. I created each individual element as though it were made for a film adaptation of the book. The trims that cover the costume were designed by me on Adobe Illustrator and laser cut from fabric. The laser prevents them from fraying and leaves me with a clean piece of trim which I hand sewed on with a large felling stitch to capture the historical fantasy feeling of the costume. In this project I was able to chat to Riddell about his process to gain an insight into the inspiration behind the character. This costume was shown as a short film which you can see a link to below!
